Kerala style Mackerel /Aiyla Fry


Mackerel /Aiyla Fry is a delicious, easy to make, common side dish in Indian meals. It is usually served with hot Mashed tapioca/ rice. Traditional Kerala Mackerel/ Aiyla fry is having a nice coating of Indian spices.

Whenever we buy Mackerel at home, we used to take half of the fish for curry and half for fry. I used to marinate the fish with spice powders and salt and keep it in fridge.
Here are the complete instructions with pictures to prepare this tasty fish fry.
Ingredients
  1. Mackerel/Aiyla – 8 Medium sized
  2. Turmeric – ½ tablespoon
  3. Red chilli powder – 1 tablespoon
  4. Coriander powder – 1 tablespoon
  5. Black pepper powder – ¾ tablespoon
  6. Oil -  2-3 tablespoon
  7. Salt to taste
Instructions
  • Clean the fish thoroughly and drain the water completely. Make slits on both the sides. Keep it aside.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, black pepper powder and salt to it
  • Mix the fish with all the spice powders. Adjust salt according to your taste.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add fishes into it. Fry each side for 3-4 minutes.
  • Sprinkle little bit of lemon juice to it. Tasty, spicy Mackerel /Aiyal fry is ready to eat.
