Kerala style Beetroot thoran

Beetroot is rich in Calcium, iron, fibres and vitamins essentials for our body. Beetroot thoran is a stir fry served usually with rice. It tastes good with hot chapattis too.  It is very simple to make side dish. This colorful dish is having a balanced sweet spicy taste of beetroot, green chillies and other Indian spices.

Try this at your homely recipe at your kitchen. Here is the ingredients list and step by step method to prepare with pictures

Ingredients
  1. Beetroot – 250 gm
  2. Onion – 2 medium sized
  3. Green chilli – 4-5
  4. Red chilli powder – 1 tablespoon
  5. Garam masala – ¼ tablespoon
  6. Pepper powder – ¼ tablespoon
  7. Grated coconut – ¾ cups
  8. Turmeric powder – ½ tablespoon
  9. Mustard seed – ½ tablespoon
  10. Curry leaves – 5 leafs
  11. Oil – 2 tablespoon
  12. Salt to taste

Instructions
  • Finely chop beetroot, onion and green chillies.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seed to it
  • Once it crackles add all the chopped veggies to it. Sauté the veggies till for 2 minutes on medium flame
  • Add water, salt, turmeric, red chilli powder, pepper powder it and mix well.
  • Close the lid and cook till the veggies are tender.
  • Once cooked add garam masala to it and sauté till all combined
  • Into this add grated coconut and stir well. Finally add curry leaves to it.

Sweet and spicy beetroot thoran is ready to serve with hot rice/ chapattis.
