Sweet potato fry


Sweet potatoes are root vegetable and are loaded with nutrients and fibers. My mom used to prepare boiled sweet potatoes whenever she buys it. And we used to enjoy it with our breakfast items. I never tried sweet potato fries. Trust me, when I tasted it I loved the sweet salty fries. Now its one of my and families favorite snack item. 

Upma with bread crust


Whenever I make sandwiches or puddings with bread, I used to cut off the edges of bread. So all that bread crusts go waste. In an attempt to not to waste those crusts, I have found one great snack or breakfast item with this leftover bread crust. Its very easy to make and you can incorporate all the veggies you like. You can even add scrambled eggs to make it protein rich.

Beans thoran/ stir fry with coconut


Thoran is a popular Kerala vegetable stir fry with coconut, garlic and spices. This dish is commonly served as a side dish for Kerala meals, especially in Sadya - traditional Kerala feast. Some places in  Kerala thoran is also called as "upperi". Thoran can be made with verity of vegetables. Today I am sharing recipe of Kerala style beans thoran.

Stuffed Omelette Roll

There are different ways to serve omelette to your loved ones. Stuffed omelette roll is an easy to make egg recipe stuffed with juicy veggies flavored with South Indian spices. This recipe should be served hot or warm. For stuffing, I have used onions, cabbage, garlic, carrot and red capsicum. You can add veggies to it as per your liking.

Pesto pasta


Hope you enjoyed the simple pasta in red sauce posted earlier. Here is another dish prepared with macaroni pasta and leftover parsley leafs.

Pesto is a sauce usually prepared with basil leaves. Traditional pesto sauce contains basil leaves, crushed garlic, olive oil, salt and cheese.

Homemade tomato ketchup


I usually prepare tomato ketchup at home with fresh tomatoes and spices. I don't use any preservatives, so I used to prepare it very less quantity and keep it in fridge for later use. It is very easy to make and taste good too 😊. You can adjust spices to vary the flavor of tomato ketchup.

I have used fusilli pasta, they are thick and cork screw shaped pasta.

Kerala style Mackerel /Aiyla Fry


Mackerel /Aiyla Fry is a delicious, easy to make, common side dish in Indian meals. It is usually served with hot Mashed tapioca/ rice. Traditional Kerala Mackerel/ Aiyla fry is having a nice coating of Indian spices.

In my home we used to pan fry it with spices powders or makes spicy curry in mankalam/ traditional clay pot.  Mackerel fish fry and curry is usually served with hot mashed tapioca/ Kappa puzhukku/Cheeni vevichathu or with hot rice.

Lapsy/Wheat rava/ Broken wheat Upma


Lapsy is broken wheat or cracked wheat. It is also called as Suji gothambu in Kerala. Upma is a south Indian breakfast dish. Upma can be prepared with broken wheat and it’s a healthy breakfast packed with fiber.

Ivy gourd stir fry with fried potato

 Ivy gourd/ Tondli/ Kovakkai is high in nutritional value. Its looks like a tiny cucumber. This vegetable is used in verity of Indian dishes. It is crunchy if you eat it raw. In my native place we are having this plant in our vegetable garden.  This plan is super climber and climbs on everywhere and we used to get so much fruits from it.

When you prepare some dish with pumpkin don’t throw away its skin and seeds. Both are rich with vitamins and minerals. Pumpkin seeds are packed with minerals and vitamins. Consuming it on regular basis is good for your health.

Pumpkin skin dry curry



Pumpkin is rich source of vitamins and minerals and its all parts from skin to seed are edible. Pumpkin has very hard shinny skin. You need to have a sharp knife to cut and towel to keep it steady while cutting. Cut the pumpkin into manageable pieces before pealing the skin.

Mathanga pachadi – A curd based curry with pumpkin


Pachadi is a yogurt based authentic Kerala recipe and it’s one of the side dish served with Onam Sadya(feast).  This dish is having close resemblance with raita, a North Indian dish. Pachadi is very tasty and easy to make recipe. There are many varieties of pachadi served with sadya, such as beetroot pachadi, pinapple pachadi, vellarikka pachadi.  Riped yellow pumpkin is the main ingredient for making Mathanga pachadi, which has a sweet taste of pumpkin, sourness of yogurt and pungent flavour of green chillies. If you have kids at home, serve this curry with rice, they will love it. 

Radish sabzi- Indian white radish dry curry

Radish comes under the category of root vegetables, which is a good source of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre.  This vegetable has so many health benefits. Its can even consumed raw with little bit salt sprinkled on it or with your salad. Today, I am going to share a recipe with Indian radish, which is famous for its sharp pungent flavour. I like eating raw radish with my salads but I love the dry curry made with this vegetable much more.
For this recipe I have used both root and leaf. Radish leafs provides many vitamins and minerals essential for our body.
See below ingredients list and instructions step by step with pictures

Ingredients
  1.  Indian radish(white radish) – 4-5 with leafs
  2. Red chilli powder – ½ tablespoon
  3. Turmeric powder – ½ tablespoon
  4. Mustard seeds – ¼ tablespoon
  5.  Cumin seeds – ¼ tablespoon
  6. Garam masala – ¼ tablespoon
  7.  Grated coconut – ¾ cup
  8. Garlic – 5-6 cloves
  9.  Salt to taste
Instruction
  • Wash radish and leafs thoroughly under running water. Peal its skin with knife or peeler. 
  • Cut off the thick stem of the leaves and chop it finely.
  • Chop radish into thin round shape. 
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds to it
  • Once the mustard seeds starts splutter, add chopped leafs and radish. Radish contains lot of water so no need to use water for cooking. Add turmeric powder and salt to it.

  • Cover the lid and allow the radish to cook until soft on medium flame. Cooking radish will mellows out its strong pungent flavor and turns it into nice and juicy with slight sweet taste.
  • Meantime crush garlic cloves and cumin seeds in a mortar and pestle. Keep it aside.



  •  Add crushed garlic and cumin mixture, red chilli powder, grated coconut and salt to the pan. Mix all the ingredients well 


  •  Tasty healthy radish dry curry is ready to serve. Serve hot with chapatti or rice.

Sambar - Traditional Keral style Vegetable Curry


Sambar is one of the popular South Indian vegetable curry. Specialty of this curry is that its made with verity of vegetables. You can add any veggies while preparing this dish. Common veggies that I uses are potatoes, tomatoes, big onions, green chillies, ladies finger, egg plant and drumstick. You can add ivy gourd,  beans, beetroot, cucumber [Vellarikka/ Kheera], snake gourd, yam etc. 

Tuvar dal/ split pigeon peas are another main ingredient of this recipe. This lentil is rich in protein and adds thickness and flavor to the sambar. 

Dosa


This dish is one of the most popular South Indian break fast item. It is made from fermented batter of rice and split black gram. This is very easy to digest and very health breakfast item 😋. Typically dosaa is served hot with sambar/ coconut chutney/ spicy dry chutney. If you are a non veterinarian, don't worry. This dish goes well with non veg curries too.

Egg burji - Indian style scrambled egg

Egg burji is a kind of scrambled egg, rich with Indian spices and vegetables. In Kerala we have different names for this recipe - mutta chikkiyathu/ mutta thoran. Onions, tomatoes and green chillies are common veggies used to prepare this dry dish. It goes well with anything. You can enjoy this fluffy dish with your breakfast / lunch/ dinner.

Rasam - South Indian tamarind soup

Popular South Indian sour and spicy soup made with tamarind juice. Usually eat with rice or as a soup. You can serve it hot or cold. Its one of the curry served in traditional Kerala Onam sadya(feast). This recipe is usually having a watery consistency. 

Ragi puttu - Kerala style Steamed Rice cake



 Puttu is one of the popular breakfast dish in Kerala. Its a steamed breakfast item, prepared in a special vessel with two parts. Lower section is to boil water and in the upper section is used to layer the wet rice flour. Steam from the boiled water passes through a narrow opening in the lower section lid cooks the rice flour. Pierced lid in the upper section will prevent rice flour to fall into the lower section. Usually Coconut is used to layer both end of the steamer.  

Mashed Spicy Cauliflower Potato Stir Fry


Cauliflower is rich in vitamins and minerals can be consumed in any form, say raw, fried, boiled. Raw cauliflower have an unpleasant smell which will goes away once it get cooked. 

In my home, we used to prepare different verities of dishes with this vegetable.  Here is the one recipe which I have experimented, tested and tasted. Smooth and creamy in texture, it tasted good with rice.

Pulissery - Kerala Style Butter Milk Curry -


 One of the Kerala popular traditional curd based recipe. Can be prepared with less ingredients and very easy to make. It is also called manja moru/ kachiya moru.

Simple Kadai Paneer


Rich in protein and calcium, Paneer is a common type of cheese used in Indian cuisines. Fresh as well as preserved paneers are available in market. You can even make it in your home by solidify heated milk with lemon juice. 

Kadai paneer is one of the popular paneer recipe, made with capsicum/ green bell pepper and onion. Recipe presented here is a dry version of Kadai paneer.

Prawns Roast

This recipe is also called as chemmin recipe. Its a spicy dry side dish made with deep fried or cooked prawns. This yummy recipe goes well with rice, chapattis, dosa etc.
