Green peas thoran, is a coconut based green peas dish. This tangy masala flavored dry curry, is usually eats with rice. I prefer to prepare this dish with fresh if it is available in the market. You can prepare it with frozen peas, but there is a taste difference.
It is very important to not to overcook peas while preparing this recipe. Let see how to prepare this Kerala style thoran/ stir fry at your home.
Ingredients
- Green peas - 250 grams
- Onions - 2 medium-sized
- Green chilies - 3-4
- Grated coconut - ½ cup
- Salt to taste
- Red chili powder - 1 tablespoon
- Coriander powder - 1 ½ tablespoon
- Garam masala - 1 small tablespoon
- Curry leafs - 1 spring
For tampering
- Oil - 2 tablespoon
- Mustard seeds - ½ tablespoon
- Chopped shallots - 2
- In a deep vessel add green peas, onion, green chilies and water to it. Close the lid and let it cook
- Once green peas are half done, add red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt to it. Mix well
- Once green peas are cooked well add garam masala, coriander powder and grated coconut to it. Stir a few minutes until well mixed.
- Add shallots and mustard seeds in hot oil. When it starts sizzling, pour it over the dish.
- Tasty Green peas thoran/ stir fry is ready. Serve hot with rice/ chapatis
